I doubt Ryen would let himself get pregnant. Even if he did get pregnant, I doubt it would be that bad.

First upgrade needs five crystals. Second upgrade either needs five steel or five mithrilbar. I could be remembering wrong though.

There's a broken bridge you need to fly over near where you got the crystal.
